Ethical Guidelines – Steffen Vornholt Horses

For over 30 years, the name Steffen Vornholt has stood for quality, trust and responsibility in the international horse business.

My work with horses – from breeding and training to sales – follows clear ethical principles that always put the horse's well-being first.

1. Respect and dignity of the horse

Every horse is a sentient being with its own character, temperament, and needs.

I treat every animal with respect, patience and fairness – regardless of origin, breed or value.

My goal is always to gain and maintain the horse's trust.

2. Responsibility in breeding and raising

Since opening my first insemination station in October 1999, I have placed the utmost importance on quality, health, and temperament. My breeding decisions are based on responsibility, experience, and expertise – not on short-term trends.

I pay attention to:

  • Healthy, willing and strong-willed horses,
  • Species-appropriate rearing with plenty of exercise and social contact,
  • Abstaining from all forms of cruel breeding practices.

  • 3. Training with feeling and patience

I train each horse individually according to its age, development, and character.

The training is conducted calmly, consistently, and with empathy – never through coercion or overexertion.

The goal is a horse that works with humans with trust, joy, and balance.

    4. Species-appropriate husbandry and care

Horses are herd animals and need light, air, exercise and contact with other horses.

My approach consistently fulfills these basic needs.

Regular veterinary check-ups, hoof and dental care, and high-quality feeding are a matter of course.

    5. Fairness and transparency in trade

Honesty, expertise and trust are the foundation of my success.

When selling, I place great importance on open communication – each horse is described honestly, with all its strengths and characteristics.

My goal is not a quick deal, but a suitable and long-term partnership between human and horse.

    6. Responsibility beyond the sale

My responsibility does not end with the handover of the horse.

I also provide advice to buyers afterwards – for questions about keeping, training or possible rehoming.

Because every horse I sell/broker remains a piece of my story.

    My promise

"Horses are my passion – their well-being is my obligation."
